DPOINT HOTEL VILLAGE at HOTELIA 2015

A Hotel Design world is coming out!

DPOINT HOTEL VILLAGE came to an end, on Sunday 15/11. While Europe was suffering some unprecedented incidents which no one could have ever imagined of, something was on in Thessaloniki proving that art is the unbeatable driving force that leads to progress, creation, vanguard.

The organization of this year’s DPOINT HOTEL VILLAGE and the parallel event, Greek Hospitality Design Spirit was precisely that; an ode to design that reached the limits of art while providing an alternative approach to the term “Greek hospitality”. Never again has such a well-set exhibition project been organized, never again have there been people to believe that such “things” can take place in Greece. Still, those of us who visited HOTELIA 2015 and DPOINT HOTEL VILLAGE at the Thessaloniki Exhibition & Conference Center did see it with our own eyes.

The Greek Hospitality Design Spirit project traveled in a really special way, through the four seasons of the year, beginning from the Greek mountain and ending up to the Greek sea. The spirit of Greek design was present in several of its aspects through an interactive experience.

Dpoint 2015 awarded at TOURISM AWARDS 2016 in the category “Architecture Project for the Tourism Industry”!

An architectural concept of strong character, special design of products that served the project, graffiti on the walls, artificial “beaches”, green corners, even natural sounds of each ambience verified the slogan that was written on the wall “happiness is a journey”. The organizers, Interiors from Greece and Tif HELEXPO, in collaboration with the working team of the project as well as the contribution of around 25 companies, probably wished to make every guest feel that a touring around the exhibition space, is like a journey, by providing the same sensation of happiness and well-being.

Minas Kosmidis [Minas Kosmidis, architecture in concept] was in charge of the architectural curation who points out that: “From the Greek mountain and our agritourism to the city, the island and the Greek sea, Greek nature and culture creates special experiences by feeling intense emotions. Modern Greek design may be connected to Greek hospitality by giving prominence to modern culture and modern side of our culture!”

On the other side, the industrial designer Sotiris Lazou thinks that: “Greek design can be a very important weapon for the creation of unique experiences for those visiting our country. Experiences that become realer and more special when based on unique suggestions derived from Greek inspiration and creativity”.

The industrial designer Andreas Varotsos shares the same views as believes that: “Greek design when related to Greek hospitality, contributes in something really important; in narrating our special stories. Besides, it’s wrong to narrate or reproduce other people’s stories in our homeland”.

The Greek Hospitality Design Spirit installation provided an impulsive creative trigger which was obvious not only in the DPOINT HOTEL VILLAGE but the entire Hotelia fair, as well.

The DPOINT HOTEL VILLAGE section by Hotelia brought together companies with highly aesthetic products and materials in a uniform space of mutual philosophy. The same happened to the rest of the fair as we could find stands of international standards, exhibitors who deviated from the Greek exhibitive clichés, products equivalent to prestigious brands and most of all, mood for creativity and eagerness to make the best of new opportunities which are linked to the progress of the hotel and tourism sectors in Greece. Design can be a very important “tool” for the improvement of the hospitality services aiming at approaching more quality visitors to our country, through more and more investments to boutique accommodation facilities that are based on the creation of special and unforgettable experiences!

This revelation of a Hotel Design world which was also the promise of this year’s DPOINT HOTEL VILLAGE by Hotelia, constitutes a creative journey that has just started!
